Snowshoeing The Macsherry Trail – Slideshow
“The Macsherry Trail is a 3-mile long hiking trail in the Crooked Creek Preserve, located in Hammond, NY. (Download a trail map.) It has a long loop which takes you out to Crooked Creek and a lovely view of Chippewa Bay and the St. Lawrence River. The short loop winds through the successional forest. Whichever route you choose, you will see wetlands and beaver ponds, pine forests and hardwood stands, and the rocks of the Canadian Shield. Wildlife is abundant.”
Yesterday I decided to go snowshoeing at the trail.
The 1st part of my trip was really fun.. the last part ‘not so much’.. it’s was becoming Man vs Wild back there.. It was getting dark, the terrain was rough, large flowing streams of ice had to be crossed… folks, you can honestly get lost back there if you’re not paying attention. You also better we wearing plenty of waterproof gear this time of year which I was.
Anyway, I was exhausted when I returned to the trail parking lot, but hey, that was the point of the trip so it’s all good. I burned a ton of calories in the almost 2 hours I was back there. Click here to view the online stats of my trip.
